What distinguishes a match play from an ordinary stroke play or Stableford competition? For me, match play is quintessential golf, its purest form. Look at the Ryder and Solheim Cups that are both battled out in match play formats. Captivating, thrilling! In a stroke play or Stableford competition, bad scores will usually ruin your card, but not necessarily in match play. There, one plays hole by hole, and even several holes lost or tied will not mean that one loses the entire match. Dear members, I would like to remind you of our traditional season-opening weekend in Le Touquet, which will take place from 20th to 22nd March 2026. The price for the golf week-end is EUR 386. The supplement for the “privilege” room is EUR 33 per person per night. If you require a single room, you will have to pay an extra EUR 75 per night. The price covers accommodation, breakfast, a round of golf per day and the dinner on Saturday night (3-course meal, drinks not included). If you intend to play one of the courses on Friday, please enquire about the conditions. The daily stay tax is 2.60 EUR per person per night. 1. Emilio, Teresa and Deborah, you won this year’s *Asterisk*-series! It is the longest series of tournaments of the EU-Golfclub, starting in April and ending in September, with 18 events! What motivated you to take part in this competition? Emilio: What I like about the Asterisk competition is that it's an annual championship, a league that lasts an entire season. It's not always the best who wins, but often the most consistent. Teresa: The good weather really starts in April, and after a long winter with less frequent golf, I always look forward to playing in good weather. There are more competitions at the EU golf club during this period and if I'm available, I'll be happy to play. Dear Members, Our regular 2025 season came to an end last Sunday at our Prix du Club event at Pierpont. As is our tradition, we played a two ball scramble format and celebrated the season by awarding the prizes for Asterisk, Winter Cup and Match play competitions . Congratulations to all the members for your participation and making the 2025 season a success. From 26 to 28 September, seven (regrettably only seven members) of our club spent a wonderful golfing weekend in the Netherlands. We stayed at Kasteel Daelenbosch - a hotel in the chain of Romantic Hotels - and played twice on the Herkenbosche golf. The first day we played Canadian foresomes which required players to dovetail and back up their partners if you go astray and the second day we played single stapleford. What a layout! Undulating fairways following the natural lay of the land, lush, green fairways (they seem to have lots of water on their hands), perfect sand in all bunkers, true and quick greens. Set in beautiful woodland, accuracy was needed off the tee. The course had many dogleg holes and blind shots that required accuracy and faith! The Netherlands as a golfing destination in 2026?
